How many of you have had great memories at the beach? Dipping our toes in the ocean, playing in the sand or swimming the day away are all memories we cherish. But did you know our oceans are in danger? That's why this week we are supporting Oceana. This organization is all about protecting our oceans and all of the life within them.
Did you know?
Oceans cover 71% of the globe!
Restoring the ocean could feed 1 BILLION people a healthy seafood meal each day.
17.6 BILLION pounds of plastic leaks into the ocean each year, that's about the size of one full garbage truck dumping in the ocean every MINUTE.
How can you help?
There are many great ways to help our oceans and most of them are very easy!
Clean up the beach! If you live close to a beach, gather your family, some gloves and a few garbage bags and pick up the trash around the beach.
Reduce your use of plastic! Make a few small switches - swap out plastic straws for paper and use a reusable water bottle!
Reduce your carbon footprint! Bike more, turn off the lights when you leave a room and buy sustainable seafood.
These awesome activities from Oceana will help your kids learn more about the ocean and the amazing ecosystems inside.
