How to be a Hero to Someone You Know - Make and Bake

It’s always a good time of the year to brainstorm ways you can get your get your family involved in doing something kind for others! In this little take-and-bake activity, you will be able to bring together your family in an act of service that will be sure to create meaningful memories. The idea of this ‘Giving Plate’ is to design a plate that can be re-gifted, load it with baked home goods, and start a ripple of kindness! Listed below are the instructions to follow in order to make your very own Giving Plate!

Materials needed for Giving Plate:

  • Plain white ceramic plate (available at any dollar store or grocery store)
  • Black, fine-tipped permanent marker
  • Assorted permanent markers
  • Your choice of baked goodies

Instructions for Giving Plate:

  • Search for poems that your child could write onto the plate. Example:
    “Enjoy these sweets,
Made just for you,

    Then pass the plate

    To someone new!”
  • Once you select your poem, write the words with the fine-tip permanent marker around the outside edges of the plate.
  • Use your creativity to decorate the plate in your own unique way.
  • Bake the plate in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Allow the plate to cool completely before moving forward.
    • This step will make your design permanent (if washed by hand afterwards)
  • Organize your baked treats on the newly decorated plate.
  • Add a small card to spread cheer and happiness to those who receive the plate.
  • Deliver your Giving Plate to your recipient!

The best part of this activity is that you can bring together families and communities! You can share this gift with new or isolated neighbors, sick or stressed friends, or even service providers, like mail carriers or even doctors and nurses. We would love to see how you are able to spread kindness through your Giving Plate, so be sure to tag us in your photos @Bumpclubandbeyond #CampBeyond!
