Exercise of the Week, Sponsored by Naturepedic

The great thing about basketball is that there are so many ways to play. You can just shoot hoops, you can play H-O-R-S-E or Around the World, or play a full game; and the best part is that everyone can be included! You can play with 1-2 friends, or 10 friends! That’s why basketball is our exercise of the week! Check out the fun ideas below, grab some friends and a ball, and get a game going!

H-O-R-S-E:
To begin the game, pick a player to go first. That player gets to do anything they want before shooting. If they want to jump up and down and then dribble 5 times before shooting, they can; because they make the rules! If they hit their shot, the other players have to do the exact same thing. But if they miss, the next player gets to make up their own wacky shot for the others to try. Any player that can’t make the first person’s shot gets the letter H. Everyone keeps playing the game and making up crazy shots until someone misses enough times to spell out the word HORSE. The player who does not spell HORSE is the winner!

Around the World
Start by marking 5-8 locations on the course, preferably forming a semi-circle around the basket. Player 1 begins by taking a shot from the first location (the location furtherest to the left of the basket). If they make it, they progress to the next location and shoot, progressing clockwise as they make the shots. If they miss a shot, they have two choices:

  1. They can stay where you are but give the next player the ball until they miss.
  2. Call “Chance” and take a second shot. If they make the shot they keep progressing around the course. If they miss, they have to go back to the first location and start over when it’s their turn again.
The first person to complete all the shots in order around the basket is the winner!

Knock Out
Grab two balls and form a line. The first person in line shoots from the free throw line, as soon as they shoot, the second person can shoot. If the first person makes it before the second person, they give the ball to the third person and go to the back of the line. If the second person makes their shot before the first person, the first person is knocked out. Play until there is a winner!
